QUESTIONS JOB SEEKERS SHOULD ASK

Be a good listener so that you do not ask questions that have already been answered.  The more interest you show and the more information you have, the better your chances for being selected for the position if you want it!

  • Do you have a current written job description for this position?  (if not, why?)

  • What are the major duties and responsibilities?  (if no job description.)

  • How long has this position been vacant?  (or is this a new position?)

  • How can I best help you in this position?

  • What would my typical workday be like?

  • What type of training will be available to me?

  • Are there training opportunities in the future?

  • What would you say is the biggest challenge for this position?

  • Who else would I be working with?  Other Departments?  Outside companies?

  • Is there a career path for this position?  (opportunities for promotion?)

  • Is there an organizational chart for the department/division/company?

  • Where might I expect to be in 5 Years?

  • What has been your experience with the company?  (personalizes interview)

  • What do you like best about working here at (company’s name)?

  • When do you hope to make a selection for this position?  (how long you wait)

Refrain from asking questions about salary, benefits, etc.  It’s not about what the employer will do for you, but what you will do for the employer.  Get the Job Offer first, and then negotiate if necessary from a position of strength.
