Tremendous Success!

13th Annual Career & Job Expo AND 2nd Annual Job Fair Preparation day

Cambridge, Maryland.  Over 65 employers participated in the 13th Annual Career & Job Expo on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 with a record 560 job seekers making this year’s job fair a tremendous success! Held again at Sailwinds Park in Cambridge, where the jobless rate is one of the highest in Maryland, this event was valuable and essential to the local economy.   In addition, the day before, on Tuesday April 8, 2008 a full workshop and seminar schedule was offered to prepare the public for their presentation to employers on Wednesday.  Several business representatives, including Mary Ellen Carter from Express Personnel, Barry Austin from Perdue and Doris Mason from Our Standard is Excellence donated their time to prepare 80 job seekers for the important presentation of their skills and resumes.

This is the second year the important job fair preparations have been offered to newly laid off employees, entry-level employees and other workers looking to better their job searching experiences.  Attendance was free and open to the public, and in addition to door prizes, the preparation day offered practice interviewing with a video camera to get extra feedback and encouragement!

Sponsored by the Upper Shore Workforce Investment Board, the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation’s Division of Workforce Development and Chesapeake College, our experts have learned that compiling your resume and learning to talk about your skills for the interview are two of the most important functions in job searching.  With the preparation and practice on April 8, many participants returned the next day and successfully connected with employers at the job fair!
