Highlights

 

  • New DLLR program supports existing Maryland businesses in the retention and growth of their workforce.

  • Incentive grant funds awarded to Maryland under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) earmarked for training incumbent workers.

  • Employer based training projects with a dollar for dollar employer match targeted at specific demand occupations.

Eligibility

 

  • Maryland companies that operate under the provision of Maryland law.

  • For-Profit and Non-Profit Private Sector employers.

 

Target Businesses/Industries

 

  • Small Businesses with 50 employees or less (or)

  • Healthcare Industry (or)

  • Other Demand Occupations in Tourism/Hospitality, Construction/Trades, Agricultural/Environment and Manufacturing industries.

 

Training Requirements

 

  • Specific to the job.

  • Increases occupational skills levels of employee.

  • Relates to the strategic goals and objectives of the company.

  • Business is ready to begin training activities.

  • Funds are for fulltime positions with benefits.

  • Training can last up to 6 months, longer if approved.

  • Needs and costs must be reasonable and clearly related to the project.

 

Approved Training & Costs

 

  • Classroom training that meets job and business requirements.

  • In-house staff training.

  • Consultants and Vendors instruction.

  • Books and Materials.

 

Non-Approved Training 

  • GED Classes

  • Introductory Classes

  • Remedial Classes

  • Safety and First Aid Courses.

  • Training that does not enhance employee’s occupational skills.

Application and Approval Process

 

  • Submit an application to the local USWIB Office before the training begins.

  • USWIB reviews the project and forwards to State Review Team for approval.

  • Determination is made each Thursday.

  • USWIB notifies applicant, executes Letter of Agreement and oversees project.

 

Reimbursement Process

 

  • Employee must successfully complete training.

  • Applicant receives 50% reimbursement upon completion of training and proof of payment.
