I. New WIB Members
Sam Mehta of Days Inn and Suites and Jean Marc Tasse have been appointed to the WIB by the Dorchester County Council.
II. Issues Related to July 1, 2007
a. Funding Projections
Funding projections are not favorable for Maryland and the entire country. Maryland’s economy is healthy relative to other states and the Administration’s desire to decrease overall funding. The impact appears to be that Maryland and Maryland WIBs will receive a smaller piece of a smaller pie.
b. Federal Budget 2007: Block Granting Again
The Administartion is proposing a block grant that includes the Workforce Investment funding and Wagner Peyser funding. The goal is to provide $3000 training vouchers for many more people than are trained in the current configuration. The proposal includes a 3% cap[ on Administartive costs a 22% cap on job seeker services and requires that 75% of the funds are you for Career Advancement Accounts (vouchers).
c. WIB Certification
All WIB certifications expire on June 30, 2007.
d. WI Area Configuration
All Workforce Investment Area certifications and plan extensions expire on June 30, 2007.
