Meeting

December 10, 2002

 

Meeting was called to order at 5:15 p.m.  

ATTENDEES

Board members in attendance:  Sue Cianchetta, Jane Colin, Eric Daniels, Bill Ditman, Carol Hastings, Stan Hutchinson, Keith LeCates, James Reilly, Dave McIntire, Royce Sampson, Charles Sommers, George Weeks.

Other attendees:  Dan McDermott, Melissa Mackey, Brenda Marzuco, Glorya Cowley.  

MINUTES

Motion made by Dave McIntire, seconded by Charlie Sommers to accept minutes from September 24, 2002 meeting as written. Motion carried by all.  

INTRODUCTION

Jim Reilly, a new member of the Board was introduced to attendees of meeting.  Jim is the Superintendent of Schools, for Dorchester County. 

YOUTH ISSUES

Contract Award – four bids were received for the Out of School Youth RFP, and one for the Year Round Youth Services RFP.  The Board Steering Committee recommended to award contracts to Chesapeake College and Kent Family Support Center.  Motion was made by Dave McIntire, seconded by Royce Sampson and carried by all to award as recommended. 

Upward Bound Proposal – Brenda, Dan and Carolyn Smith-Kennedy (Chesapeake College) have applied for a grant.  A decision should be forthcoming by June 2003.  

Resource Mapping Project – contract has been awarded to The McKenzie Group out of Washington, D.C.    

BLACK AND DECK

An information packet outlining timeline, service and action strategies to be used to assist terminated employees, was distributed to meeting attendees, along with a list of organizations/groups Dan has and will be meeting with in December.  

Dan asked the Board’s approval to pursue applying for funds under the Trade Act Grant and the National Emergency Grant.  Motion was made by Stan Hutchinson, seconded by Royce Sampson and carried by all for applying for funds under the Trade Act Grant.  Motion was made by Sue Cianchetta, seconded by Charlie Sommers and carried by all to apply for funding through the National Emergency Grant. (Keith LeCates abstained from voting on both actions). 

MOBILE LEARNING CENTER

George Weeks showed photos taken during his visit to the plant in Ohio.  The unit's completion is expected in the beginning of January, 2003 and delivered to Wye Mills mid-month.

  WIB RECRUITMENT

Dan will follow up on a letter from Kent County concerning appointment to the Board from the private sector. 

NAWB CONFERENCE

As of this date, there is one opening available to the March conference. Please let Glorya know if you want to attend.  

Motion was made by Dave McIntire, seconded by Charlie Sommers and carried by all to adjourn meeting. Meeting was adjourned at 6:47 p.m.
