Workforce Investment Board Meeting

June 1, 2004

Meeting called to order at 5:25 p.m.

Attendees:

Previous Minutes

Motion was made by George Weeks, and seconded by Royce Sampson to accept the minutes as presented.  Motion passed.

Budget 2004-2005

Presented and explained in detail by Dan McDermott.  George Weeks, seconded by Stan Hutchison to accept as presented, made motion.  Motion passed. 

Bob Seurkamp and Bernie Antkowiak

Bob Seurkamp, the Executive Director of the Governor’s Workforce Investment Board (GWIB) and Bernie Antkowiak, the Assistant Secretary of the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) discussed several initiatives that are taking place in their respective agencies.

Bernie Antkowiak discussed several DLLR initiatives.

 

NAWDP Conference

Dan McDermott and Hoyt Heinmuller gave an overall review to the board members who were not in attendance, of the presentation of our response to the closing of Black and Decker.  After reviewing the presentation evaluations returned, Hoyt felt that overall, attendees felt the presentation was excellent.

 Communicating with County Government

A motion was made by Phil Bramble and seconded by Royce Sampson, that a packet recapping items discussed at USWIB Board meetings be put together and dispersed quarterly to each County Commission.  A cover letter to be signed by each County Representative will accompany each packet.  Motion passed. A draft will be put together and sent to the Board Members for their comments, suggestions, etc.

WIB Social

The annual dinner will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at General Tanuki’s restaurant in Easton.  Please return the entrée choice form to the WIB office by June 21, 2004. At 7:15 p.m., a motion to adjourn and moved into Executive Session, was made by George Weeks, and seconded by Sue Cinchetta.  Motion passed.

Executive Session Minutes, Hoyt Heinmuller, President.

19:15 hours

A motion was made and seconded to go into executive session to discuss personnel matters.  The motion carried. The staff left the room.  Dan McDermott discussed highlights of the previous year and answered various questions from the board.  He left the meeting. The board discussed issues related to Executive Directors contract for 2004-2005. The board voted to go out of executive session.  A motion was made and carried to offer a one-year contract to Dan McDermott. A motion was made and carried to adjourn.

Closure to the meeting was at 20:30 hrs.
