Dependable Strengths Presentation

Rhonda Hart, Adult Education Counselor for USWIB, explained that this is a 2.5 day course by which customers or clients are assisted in recognizing their true potential by being able to identify those strengths inherent in them that would be valuable to future employers.  The training is geared towards know what your skills are through good personal experiences.

The youth present felt that this type of course would be very helpful to themselves and other youth with building self esteem, as a motivator that would help in job application and interviews.  Would like to see as an in or after school program.

Youth Employability – Update or Incoming Cohort

There are two groups of sixteen beginning now in Cambridge.  Easton is doing well as is Denton, Federalsburg, Hurlock and Chestertown. There is a waiting list for Cambridge, but a few openings remaining elsewhere.  Next year, the possibility of having four groups in Cambridge should be looked into.

Youth Resource Guide Project

Dan McDermott asked the younger attendees to review the guide from Lower Shore before the meeting began.  Their response was that it needed more graphics/animation to catch your eye, but they preferred to explore the internet instead.

Donation

Farber Specialty Vehicles has made a private donation in the amount of $2500.00.  After much discussion, it was suggested that the money be used to have a reunion for everyone who has attended or worked with the program. Dan and Brenda will look into the possibility of hold the reunion at the Hyatt in Cambridge in the fall.

Meeting was adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
