Upper Shore Workforce Investment Board Steering Committee April 11, 2006 5:30 pm Talbot Career Center Agenda
I. Lower Shore Situation Mr. McDermott updated the Steering Committee on the Lower Shore Workforce Alliance situation. There is a dispute in the Lower Shore area concerning the authority of the fiscal agent and the Workforce Alliance staff. Mr. Weeks will provide a brief update on the situation at the April 25, 2006 Upper Shore WIB meeting.
II. Steering Committee Vacancy-Hoyt Heinmuller Resignation Mr. Heinmuller has resigned due to a job transfer to Texas. The Steering Committee acting as a nominating committee determined that E.C. Townsend of the Division of Rehabilitative Services should be approached to determine his interest in serving the remainder of Mr. Heinmuller’s term on the Steering Committee. Dan McDermott will contact Mr. Townsend and if he is willing to be nominated the nomination of Mr. Townsend will take place at the April 25, 2006 WIB meeting.
III. Higher Education Listening Session The Governor’s WIB has requested that local areas coordinate “Higher Education Listening Sessions”. The Upper and Lower Shore are grouped as an area for this project. The purpose of the Listening Session is to provide business input for the leadership of the higher education system in Maryland. The Steering Committee instructed Mr. McDermott to contact the Governor’s WIB staff and indicate that the Upper Shore was not interested in coordinating the listening session at this time.
IV. WIB Agenda The Steering Committee finalized the agenda given below for the April 25, 2006 WIB meeting.
